Swiss etiquette & everyday rules

Quiet hours, punctuality, neighbors, laundry, Sundays and the behavioral rules newcomers actually notice.

Punctuality

Being on time matters more here than in many places. If you are going to be meaningfully late, message rather than silently arriving later.

Neighbors and noise

Do not confuse stereotypes with rules. Zurich has formal noise-protection rules, and individual buildings can add house rules. Keep music, parties and noisy chores considerate, especially at night.

Shared spaces

Return laundry rooms, bike rooms, courtyards and trash areas in a condition that does not create work for the next person.

Directness

Communication can feel concise. A short correction about recycling or laundry is often about the rule, not a personal feud.
